Remembering William Sturgeon: A Pioneer of Electromagnetism.

On this day, the world bid farewell to William Sturgeon, an inventor whose groundbreaking work laid the foundations for the electric age. Best known for inventing the first electromagnets and the first practical electric motor, Sturgeon's contributions were pivotal in unlocking the potential of electricity in practical applications.

Sturgeon's electromagnet, a piece of iron wrapped with insulated wire, revolutionized the field of electromagnetism, leading to innovations like telegraphs, transformers, and electric relays. His electric motor, though rudimentary by today's standards, was a harbinger of the countless electric machines that would become central to modern life.
