TODAY IN DESIGN → 1982

The first commercially produced compact disc (CD) was manufactured in Germany on this day.

The introduction of the CD brought about significant changes in the design of music packaging, leading to the decline of the vinyl album cover's prominence and the rise of CD jewel cases.
